Dr. Bill Krivarchka is Director of the Eastern North Dakota Area Health Education Center in Mayville, North Dakota since its inception in March 2009. A native of Bowman, North Dakota, Dr. Krivarchka has an extensive background in rural health care delivery. He established Goose River Dental, a private dental practice in Mayville in 1978, with satellite clinics in Northwood and Page. He has served on boards of the Traill County Health District, NE Dental District, Mayville Improvement Association, MPCG Dollars for Scholars, Mayville-Portland Economic Development and Traill County Economic Development. He also served as the executive director of the Mayville State University Foundation and on several local community and state groups. As director, Dr. Krivarchka will develop programs to recruit and retain health care providers in underserved rural areas, as well as address workforce shortages and educating students about health care career options. He has Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Dakota and received his DDs degree from the University of Minnesota.

Katie Thompson has been employed as the Education Coordinator for the Eastern North Dakota AHEC since its inception in 2009, a career suiting both her interest in education and health care. Katie assists in the development of partnerships among schools, health care facilities and other community and statewide agencies to coordinate activities that encourage students to consider health care occupations in rural North Dakota. Katie graduate in 2006 from Mayville State University with a degree in elementary education. Her office is based out of First Care Health Center, located in Park River, ND.

Lois Karlstad became the Project Coordinator of the Eastern North Dakota Area Health Education Center in January 2010. Raised in the Air Force, her family retired and remained in Grand Forks North Dakota. Marriage brought Lois to Mayville and it has been her home for 30 years. Her 26 year career in rural healthcare began at Goose River Dental Associates as the office manager for Dr. Bill Krivarchka. Lois will aid in the organization of events to promote education and awareness of the need for health care in rural areas. Lois serves on several local community organizations and feels the benefits of living in a rural community are countless. She believes AHECs will enhance the opportunities in rural areas of North Dakota.
